Definitely something that has to be in the "real metalhead's" collection! LOL!
There is some GOOD work on here.......Being as it was made in 1995, it's probably the "most important chapter" of Phil's solo work once you understand ALL timelines related.

Not what I expected.
I loved what the other guys did after Pantera, especially Hellyeah, so I gave Phil a chance as well. Not what I was expecting from him. Barely heard his vocals. Some good heavy riffing in a few songs, but mostly lame .

The combination of Phil Anselmo and Pepper Keenan should be enough to cause heavy metal fans to drool, but with a full cast made up of members of Pantera, Corrosion of Conformity, Crowbar, and Eyehategod, Down is truly a supergroup, and performs as such. Make no mistake, though, the music inevitably comes back to Anselmo and Keenan. NOLA (an acronym for New Orleans, Louisiana) takes the two superstars' writing talents and distinctive sounds and focuses them in a feast of Cajun-style heavy metal. Like much of Pantera's music, NOLA is lyrically enigmatic and frequently celebrates the use of controlled substances. Glorification of cannabis aside, the album's true focus is inner melancholy and atonement for earlier sins. Keenan's own brand of crunching axework -- the kind that typifies his ... Fantastic
I really wish I would have been more into music when this came out because it is one of the best CD's I own. Because of this CD I am excited to hear "Down 3" when it comes out. Probably later this year. If you like good hard rock/ metal and if you liked Pantera you will like this.
