Engaging cast, including a sheriff who reminds me a little of the neurotic Rickman sheriff from the Costner film. Writing is a little lazy in that characters act stupid or incredibly wise to heighten the drama and every principal female seems to have earned a black belt in sword play. Some surprises - won't divulge them - and some plot devices that make the series more a semi- fantasy than a historical drama. Traditional roles have been altered - there's a black Brother Tuck - and the length of the series requires dozens of new plot ideas, straining the writers to find new ways to get the principal characters out of scrapes they wrote them into. Reminds me of opera. The more you turn off your critical faculties the more fun it is. (Like those incredibly fast ravens in Game of Thrones.)Read full review

On the first disc, the second or third episode, there were several frame freezes and jumps in the play back, looked at the disc but did not notice a scratch or chip. The series is entertaining enough to look up at the tv once in a while, otherwise, good background noise. The acting was not the best.

This is another of the wonderful TV series produced by the BBC having to do with British story telling. The set designs are beautiful and capture the medieval period exactly. An actual castle in France was utilized for the exteriors and the sets built for the interior scenes are incredibly accurate. The episodes are written with flourish, displaying both swashbuckling adventure and emotional sensitivity in a perfect blend that captures the attention of the viewer and doesn't let go. And the characters! Jonas Armstrong portrays Robin Hood with a perfect combination of whimsy and seriousness that tops any other actor I've ever seen in the role. Keith Allen is excellent as the Sheriff of Nottingham, using sarcasm and dark humor to offset the complete evilness of the character. Richard Armitage plays Sir Guy of Gisbourne as a tortured soul, caught between his love of Maid Marian and his brutal quest for power. Lucy Griffiths is absolutely enchanting as Marian, who is both a sensitive, caring woman, and a genius with the sword when she has to be. The other supporting characters, who make up Robin's band of "merry men" are all wonderful. This is one series that I feel fortunate to have seen, and will happily watch again and again.Read full review
