About this product

Product Information

Adapted from a mind-bending sci-fi thriller by Philip K. Dick, the slick and riveting PAYCHECK is directed by John Woo (THE KILLER, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE II)--the king of artful gunfighting flicks--who shows off his agility here with flat-out, white-knuckle cinematic entertainment. Michael Jennings (Ben Affleck) is a high-paid engineer who works on hush-hush computer inventions and technology for shady companies. Later, his memory is wiped clean, so he has no recollection of his work. His so-called friend Rethrick (Aaron Eckhardt, the master of smarmy mean-spiritedness, as in IN THE COMPANY OF MEN) offers him enough money to retire by working on a project at Rethrick's company, Allcom. When Jennings emerges three years later, sans memory, he tries to collect his paycheck. At the bank, he's handed a manila envelope filled with cryptic items he doesn't recognize, and told he voluntarily forfeited his entire paycheck. He also has a stunning girlfriend named Dr. Rachel Porter (Uma Thurman) who is likewise ensnared in the conspiracy. Jennings must somehow piece together the clues he left for himself, and find out why everyone is out to kill him.As usual, Dick's story is the basis for a killer script that travels from point A to Z with gripping immediacy. The clues left for Jennings are amusing writerly devices, intricately pieced together. Woo clearly enjoyed choreographing the wild gunfighting and chase sequences (slo-mo bullets aplenty), sending Affleck and Thurman on the run with a BMW motorcycle.

    Sci-Fi/Mystery Must See

Paycheck is a clever little sci-fi/mystery. Full of surprise twists. The main character keeps the interest level high in anticipation as he seeks to figure out a series of seemingly meaningless clues leading him to the project he was working on secretly for three years. The plot is not very guessable and it keeps you glued to the action. I highly recommend this movie; you'll be surprised to learn what his project was all about. Action, suspense, and a little love story wrapped up in a pretty exciting movie.

Not the best P.K.Dick movie, but not the worst

This story was captivating and involving, but it suffers a little from some bad treatments by the writers. That being said, it has a sort of timeless style of future/past sense of film noir. Watch it first for the action and watch it again for the details.

  • Paycheck Leaves Something To Be Desired

Ben Affleck and Uma Thurman do admirably adequate jobs in their roles. That being said, it should also be noted that the concept for this movie has a great deal of potential; unfortunately, that potential is not realized. In all fairness, I purchased this movie for the sci-fi aspect involving 'time viewing' and various thought treatments of 'altering a probable future.' In that, I was sorely disappointed - not nearly enough time or conjecture was placed in that arena. Additionally, the storyline which makes up the majority of the movie shows little creativity and remains - for the most part - formulaic.

  • A Fast Paced Puzzler

This is another sci-fi movie based upon a short story by scifi author Philip K. Dick. (Others are Blade Runner, Imposter, Minority Report.) I like Ben Afleck and what guy doesn't like Uma Thurman. They had a nice chemistry in this film. I also like Paul Giamatti. I thought they all did a fine job. I found the film to be intellectually intiguing as I found myself trying to piece the puzzle together along with Afleck's character, Michael Jennings. It also has good action sequences as all John Woo movies do. If you haven't seen it give it a try. Note that I rented this on Netflix and liked it so much that I bought a copy for my home library.

  • Good Movie

I bought this movie becuase I'm a movie collectoe and I did not have. I've seen it before and it was really good. ~~ This Movie is one of those that you have to watch to really understand what is going on during the whole movie. If you miss one part of it you are going to be questioning what is going on sometimes.. ~~ Overall it is really a good movie to add to your collection and it is a movie that you can watch multiple times. Its not the movie that once you watch it you really don't care to watch again~~ Definatley a wanted movie if you are into action movies that are constant watchers!!
