A tack sharp superb lens. Great value for money over the AFS version
Review for Micro Nikkor 105mm F2.8 D the previous version (NOT AFS version) If you dont need VR, dont mind the extending front element and a bit of slow focus (no AFS), the lens is simply fantastic value for money. This lens is almost half price to the AFS version and the extra price compared to a 60mm is worth its weight in gold. Also Auto Focus wont work on the basic Nikons like the D40 D40X D3000 D5000 etc (please check for compatibility before purchase) In my view 105mm is preferable to 60mm for proper macro photography. Re sharpness, I have used the 55mm AF micro, 60mm AF micro and 105mm AF micro F4 and this F2.8. All are very sharp. If your experience is different please check your sample as sharpness is universally considered as strength of these lenses. Some experts use these ... A great lens.
I love it, there is not much more to say, it gives sharp micro photographs and I couldn't be happier. I use it with my Nikon D90 and I get great macro and close up photos. It is slightly heavy but for the quality of the images it is no burden. I highly recommend it.
