  • an affordable marshall amp head that will satisfy...

hi everyone! its crazy dave again. this review will be slightly different than my typical cheapo budget finds, because this amp is in a somewhat more expensive price range. that said, however, many things about this marshall are super cool. so here we go...first of all, its loud for a 50 watt head, so be ready for that! it has the small 60s vintage logo and the neat gold binding that also gives a nice old vibe. its moderate weight makes it reasonably portable. it does not have a reverb unit onboard, so you might want to grab a boss reverb pedal. they sound good and are affordable. the clean sound on this amp is decent and it gets dirty as you add gain. i use it with just a little distortion for a 70s grit sound. best of all, its handsome, classy, and easy to use! slightly smaller than a 800 0r 900 so you can run a 410 cab easily. i like it a lot!! later gang, dave

  • Great amp but too much tweaking required.

Great amp - Marshall sounds. Versatile, well made product. Just to much tweaking for me to get the sounds I was hoping to get to replace my AVT2000. I returned the amp after 7 days of trying with various guitars and speakers

  • I love it!

For the money you can't get a better amp, in my opinion. I play a lot of rhythm so I dont need tons of gain. I like a cleaner Marshall sound so this is my amp. If you are looking for a JCM or a DSL them type of sound then this isn't your amp, but if you want a strong, solid, clean tube tone at a a great price this IS your amp.

  • Sweet Sounding Amp

I was a little mixed about the sound of this amp until I turned the treble middle and bass up all the way and the presence and tilt to half way. I then made all my tone and volume adjustments on my guitar andcwas then able to get that sweet vintage tone marshalls are famous for. The power setting switch gives you a good volume at 1watt for practicing. If you turn the gain and master up all the way you get plenty of crunch for rock and roll and if you switch to high gain you get plenty of gain for hard rock but not quite enough for heavy metal but this amp was not setup for HM. For the price and build quality you have here its a good alternative to shelling out over $2000 for a high end plexi. Im very happy with this amp. I prefer it over my DSL and Jubilee marshall amp but I am seeking that vintage marshall sound so this amp serves me well

  • Best marshall bang for buck

Simple controls. Mildly crunchy tone- somewhere between my early and later Marshalls.the ‘tilt’ control is obviously just an adjustable ‘ bright’ switch -but that’s exactly what this amp needs since the volume control ( with boost switch) will be used over its ENTIRE range, and really need to trim treble up and down at the front of the circuit. Came with matched JJ EL34’s and selected/balanced JJ preamp tubes. Yes, early plexi Jtm has a better blues-rock sound, JCM 800’s have more overdrive/distortion that holds together slightly better- but this will cover both fairly well -for $500 bucks! I’m buying another in the combo cab. But that’s just me.

  • Finally early Marshall sound is affordable

Back in the day I played early metal panels and early jmp masters. If you like that sound, this will get you there. Pros- light, affordable, great sounding if early Marshall is your thing. Cons- it won't do metal or heavier gains without a pedal. It's got great harmonic content. It's extremely dynamic. It has plenty of power for gigs. I honestly can't find a thing not to like about this amp.

  • Origin 50 is all Marshall

This is the first time I have ever bought a new Marshall. It's everything I expect from the amps that started it all. The layout is simple and straightforward like an old Plexi, and it has the full range of sound--from clean to crunch. What more could I want? It's definitely a Marshall !

  • Origin 50

This head is exactly as advertised. Great volume at full power and great sounds for the home at low. The head doesn't have the gain to play metal so you will need a overdrive. The cleans are so good! Great value at $400.

  • Marshall 50 watt head

I just got it hooked up to my 4/12 cabinet and it sounds great and with the power switch is and awesome device for practice in my apartment and it does let me run this thing wide open without any complaints at all!! Thanks, Max

  • Marshall plexi at a rock bottom price.

Simple and well made, sounds like a Marshall should. A good overdrive pedal and you can play most anything with this amp. Probably can't make it sound like a Mesa dual Rectifier but that is not what it is for anyway. It's old school metal a plenty and more volume than you can imagine. Might want a power soak in the future.
