Notes
Carrie & Lowell sounds like memory: it spans decades yet does not trade on pastiche or nostalgia. Stevens's gauzy double-tracked vocals wash across the dashboard of long-finned, drop-top Americana, yet as we race towards the coast we are reminded that sunshine leads to shadow, for this is a landscape of terminal roads, unsteady bridges, traumatic video stores, and unhappy beds that provide the scenery for tales of jackknifed cars, funerals, and forgiveness for the dead. Each track in this collection of eleven songs begins with a fragile melody that gathers steam until it becomes nothing less than a modern hymn. Sufjan recounts the indignities of our world, of technological distraction and sad sex, of an age without neither myths nor miracle - and this time around, his voice carries the burden of wisdom. Carrie & Lowell accomplishes the rare thing that any art should achieve, particularly in these noisy and fragmented days: By seeking to understand, Sufjan makes us feel less alone.

First time buying from this seller. I actually tried to cancel the order as it hadn't shipped yet and I was afraid it wouldn't arrive on time. However the seller declined and shipped it to me quickly. I arrived just in time. Album was just as pictured and described. It arrived undamaged and was professionally packaged. Very happy with my purchase. Great communication from the seller. 5 Stars!

I purchased this record the day after Ozzy died and the seller emailed me the very next day to let me know it was out of stock. He offered me a refund or I could wait until it was stocked up again. I chose to wait on it but before I got home from work it had been delivered the following Monday! It was packaged well and I will definitely be back to buy more from this dealer! Highly recommend 5star seller all the wau!

  • Sufjan brings tha ruckus

Five years after the bombastic The Age of Adz, Sufjan Stevens returns with a more scaled-down product. Arguably seen as the spiritual successor to 2004's Seven Swans album, Carrie & Lowell is a sparse folkist affair with lyrical content largely focusing on Sufjan's relationship with his recently-deceased mother, who suffered from schizophrenia in her lifetime. Fans of Sufjan's more down-to-earth work will find something fantastic here. Fans of sad, somber folk music will find something fantastic here. Fans of the maximalism of Illinois and the aforementioned Age of Adz may consider parts of this album significantly lacking in Aesthetic complexity. I am personally among this latter group, but that is not to say I dislike this album at all. It's just I kinda wanted Age of Adz 2: Feel-ectric ...

  • High quality, would recommend

In my opinion, one of the best albums about grief of all time. Sufjan connects the stories of his mother's death and their strange relationship with the greater cultural stories- those of the Bible and Greek mythology. The disk sounds great and the photos on the digipak are very interesting.
