Synopsis
The story of Prairie du Chien is the history of the Mississippi Frontier in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Native Americans gathered on the prairie to engage in the fur trade, French explorers built a fort to house the furs and trade goods, British traders and American soldiers competed and battled for control of the prairie, and here Black Hawk surrendered in 1832. Though written in 1937, "Prairie du Chien: French, British, American" still stands as the most definitive work on Wisconsin's second oldest community. Republished by the Prairie du Chien Historical Society.

I wanted the book to be shipped in a box, because the value and scarcity of the volume I purchased deserved it, however, the company is too large and I was informed the book would be shipped in a plastic mailer. Somehow it didn’t arrive very damaged, a little bump, but for the price I can’t complain. This title was NOT worth the price because it came with highlighting, ink underlineing & writing in the margins...not the quality that they advertised. I have on other occasions gotten books in great condition, however, that were listed in less than the condition advertised so it goes both ways...but I'd much prefer a company that delivers exactly what they advertise. I guess good help is hard to find. The book was well packaged & came fast.
