    Romantic costume drama

    If you like GONE WITH THE WIND, you will enjoy GREEN DOLPHIN STREET. Two sisters are in love with the same man. Marianne (a brunette Lana Turner) is outspoken and believes in equal rights for women. Marguerite (Donna Reed) is quiet and sweet. The object of their affections claims to love Marguerite, but he spends a lot of time with Marianne as well, and at the beginning he gets their names confused, so it's hard to blame Marianne for going after him; he does seem interested in both girls. This is a sweeping historical romantic costume drama. The only thing missing is color. I don't mind black & white films per se, but the costumes and the island settings practically beg for color, especially green which is a recurring theme throughout the story. Lana Turner's performance is a stand-out.

    One of my favorite classic movies with a wonderful cast. It is filled with romance and adventure, love and reconciliation. I love the period of the story, and as it unfolds, new revelations are found. A must for all classic movies, Lana Turner, Donna Reed, Gladys Cooper fans.
