Admittedly, I have some bias because I attended the UNI show. Given that, this is a very nice recording of a significant period in the band's history. I especially like the first CD, but that may change over time. The band seems energized and joyous; and you have to note: everyone also seems healthy. You gotta love Donna and Keith, and how they gave the band a different sound and feel.
To me, the period is one in which the band has found its groove and is really coming into its own. The sound is a little lighter or airier - for like of better terms - and carried you along. It differs from the gritttier and more bluesy earlier sound, and from the full or rich rock sound that came later. As always, each phase with their special dash of psychodelia. Don't get me wrong, I loved them from the beginning and still - through thick and thin. This is a phase in the band that any collector or fan should have at least one live recording of; and this is definitely an excellent choice.
Probably my only criticism - beyond just wanting the complete recording of each show - is that I wish the liner notes identified which specific takes came from each of the two show dates. But I may be able to sort some of that out with a little further online research.
Another Great Show. I Love That the Dick’s Picks are Becoming More Affordable as Compared to the Early Dave’s Picks, Which I Haven’t Even Started Buying Yet. I Want to Complete my Dick’s Picks Collection Before I Start Another Collection. But the Early Dave’s Picks are Insanely Expensive. Because they Only Made 25,000 of Each.
