    Older version better than this sample

    I bought two of these lenses at the same time, this one and an older version with a metal scalloped focusing ring, which turned out to be much sharper. I don't know if the difference was due to design changes or sample differences. Optically the two lenses are theoretically the same, and both are multi-coated, but the lens coatings appear to be slightly different. The front element of the newer lens has a green tint, whereas the older one is purple, with some greenish reflections inside.

    A pure gem for the price

    This lens brings absolutely stunning image quality for the price. Used it on a DX crop camera with 12Mpix matrix, pins every pixel. Color rendition is vivid and amazing as with any other pro nikon lens. Very good light transmission, allow me to shoot hand-held at ISO 200-400 indoors. Have to notice that this lens has a slight amount of barrel distortion, which can be easily corrected in any RAW-converter or in most cases can be easily ignored. Vignetting is moderate on F/2 and almost non-existent at F/4.
