Praise for Fossil Capital: "The best book written about the origins of global warming ... Like Naomi Klein's This Changes Everything, Fossil Capital trenchantly demonstrated that capitalism and capitalists are responsible for climate change." - Michael Robbins, Bookforum "Malm forcefully unmasks the assumption that economic growth has inevitably brought us to the brink of a hothouse Earth. Rather, as he shows in a subtle and surprising reinterpretation of the Industrial Revolution, it has been the logic of capital (especially the need to valorize immense sunk investments in fossil fuels), not technology or even industrialism per se, that has driven global warming." - Mike Davis, author of Planet of Slums and Ecology of Fear " Fossil Capital is a theoretical masterpiece and a political-economic-ecological manifesto. It looks unblinkingly at the catastrophe that could await human society if we fail to act on the words System Change or Climate Change. It is a book that I will return to again and again--and take notes." - John Bellamy Foster, University of Oregon, author of Marx's Ecology "The definitive deep history on how our economic system created the climate crisis. Superb, essential reading from one of the most original thinkers on the subject." - Naomi Klein, author of This Changes Everything and The Shock Doctrine "A unique reconceptualization of the relationship between nature, capitalism, and Marxism." - Jacobin, "The prose crackles--this is an urgent book ... Electrifying." -- Spectre Journal "A remarkable work, a tour de force ... Malm seems to have summoned the energies of the crisis and guided them onto the page. The prose crackles, this is an urgent book ... electrifying." -- rs21 "Compared with most other books that discuss the crisis, its solutions are more realistic because they are more radical." --Simon Butler, Climate and Capitalism "Eloquent and important ... [ Corona, Climate, Chronic Emergency ] gets the origins and the scale of the cascading ecological crises we face exactly right. Compared with most other books that discuss the crisis, its solutions are more realistic because they are more radical." -- International Viewpoint "There is a lot to discuss and debate in Corona, Climate, Chronic Emergency . It is a helpful revolutionary socialist contribution to understanding the political forms and strategies that are urgent for survival and revolution in a world on fire." -- Paul Fleckenstein, Tempest "A bracing 224-page polemic written in the wake of Covid-19 ... Malm elucidates the links between the climate crisis and pandemics." --George Eaton, New Statesman "Indisputably one of the most serious theorists writing about the crisis of nature today." -- Anticapitalist Resistance "Few have connected the climate and capitalism crises with such acid clarity as Malm." --Thomas Meaney, New Statesman ("Books of the Year") "Darkly elegant and studded with recondite history." --Richard Seymour, New Statesman ("Books of the Year") "The first publicly accessible book that connects pandemics, climate change, and capitalism ... well-researched and beautifully written." --Cihan Tugal, openDemocracy "A forensic explanation of the combined impacts and barbarism of climate trashing and zoonotic plagues." -- Bryn Jones, Chartist "It is hard to argue with [Malm's] central point, linking extractive capitalism, ecological collapse and the increased risk of pandemic." -- Eoin Ó Broin, Irish Times "A tour-de-force of academic writing." -- Fabrício Belsoff, KULT_online, "The prose crackles--this is an urgent book ... Electrifying." -- Spectre Journal "A remarkable work, a tour de force ... Malm seems to have summoned the energies of the crisis and guided them onto the page. Friedman, World Medical & Health Policy Journal "Audacious ... Malm forces us to face a crucial question: what are the social democratic politics of emergency?" --Adam Tooze, London Review of Books

Synopsis
What does the COVID 19 tell us about the climate breakdown, and what should we do about it? The economic and social impact of the coronavirus pandemic has been unprecedented. Governments have spoken of being at war and find themselves forced to seek new powers in order to maintain social order and prevent the spread of the virus. This is often exercised with the notion that we will return to normal as soon as we can. What if that is not possible? Secondly, if the state can mobilize itself in the face of an invisible foe like this pandemic, it should also be able to confront visible dangers such as climate destruction with equal force. In Corona, Climate, Chronic Emergency, leading environmental thinker, Andreas Malm demands that this war-footing state should be applied on a permanent basis to the ongoing climate front line. He offers proposals on how the climate movement should use this present emergency to make that case. There can be no excuse for inaction any longer.

Item was exactly as described and packaged to protect it. Seller’s pricing was spot on and when I received it, it was in good condition. Seller actually messaged me when they shipped it (I really appreciated that). Overall I’m happy doing business with them!

The Item itself I rate five stars. The seller, however, I stop at four stars. The seller met two out of three categories I look for when judging my purchasing experience: how well it was packaged, how quickly it was shipped, and how properly it was described; this seller provided prompt shipping and an accurate description, but failed when it came to packaging. The item arrived in a plastic bag without any reinforcement or protection whatsoever and suffered dinged corners on multiple fronts.
