Quality 'bins' at a reasonable price.
Bright, clear images from these binoculars - ED glass does make a difference - can't fault the optics although the strap could be better (more cushioned) and the objective lens cover retainers need to be redesigned - they are too easy to dislodge from the body of the binoculars and so get lost.

Bought as a present and understand (and relieved to hear) that they fit the bill. Light to use (Primary consideration) and extremely clear view. Used for bird watching. Supplied with hard case and lens protectors plus good quality straps. Prior to ordering I checked numerous reviews which without exception said that Barr and Stroud manufacture very good optics. Therefore had confidence in placing an order for these binoculars. Bought as a present and understand (and relieved to hear) that they fit the bill. Light to use (Primary consideration) and extremely clear view. Used for bird watching. Supplied with hard case and lens protectors plus good quality straps. Prior to ordering I checked numerous reviews which without exception said that Barr and Stroud manufacture very good optics. Therefore had confidence in placing an order for these binoculars.

value for money
I already have Barr and Stroud 8x42 and like them a lot so I had no hesitation in buying these 10x42's. I use the former for general use but needed something with a higher mag. for coastal bird watching. Being on a fairly tight budget I had to buy what I could afford and I don't regret my choice. They are not especially light weight, being 1lb. 9oz., but I have fitted a spongy neck strap which distributes the weight nicely. The optics give a clear and bright image once you set the lenses to suit your eyes. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is that I have found that, when I have set the independent eyepiece to give a sharp image at say 20 yds,, when I look at an object at a further distance I have to tweak the right eyepiece again. This is something which I haven't experienced with ... I already have Barr and Stroud 8x42 and like them a lot so I had no hesitation in buying these 10x42's.
