I bought this film on ebay as I had been told that the battle scenes were as good as in Saving Private Ryan. The story is set in June 1959 and told through the eyes of two brothers, who have seen their family torn apart by the Korean war. Brotherhood is an epic and heart wrenching story, which heralds the triumph of the human spirit in the midst of overwhelming suffeing and sacrifice. The Film is 142 mins long and has English Subtitles.

Unquestionably one of the best war films ever made. It's an explosive but moving story of two devoted brothers trying to survive the horrors of the Korean War. The blood-splattered, limb-strewn battle scenes and special effects are simply amazing. A must-have for war film connoisseurs. Some people moan about the sub-titles but it's a Korean film for heaven's sake so of course sub-titles are needed - and if you can read The Sun you can read sub-titles.
This movie is an over-the-top Korean version of Saving Private Ryan. There is much Spielbergian sentimentality, battlefield gore galore and even the same corny present day framing device at the beginning and end of the movie as used in SPR. The differnce is that instead of a band of brothers attempting to rescue one man, this movie has a single soldier striving to win a discharge from the army for his infirm brother by volunteering for ever more dangerous missions. Much has been made of Brotherhood as a homage to the survivors and fallen of the Korean War but the increasing cartoonishness of the film as it unfolds greatly diminishes its emotional impact. The final half hour is as believable as a Rambo movie. To be fair, Brotherhood is beautifully filmed, the special effects are excellent and it is highly entertaining in its own right if viewed as a lightweight popcorn movie.Read full review
