This is a POWER clamp meter (Model HP-870P) which is the sibling to it's more general clamp meter (the HP-570N). Both are similar in construction, made of hard plastic with no rubber shock-resistant/comfortable parts. The clamp is quite still to operate and is of the Hall Effect variety, hence it's ability to measure AC and DC currents. Both clamp meters measure True RMS and the HP-870P Power Clamp Meter measures AC/DC voltage, current and AC frequency. You will need a Line Splitter with meter access points to measure Active Power, Reactive Power, Apparent Power and Power Factor, as you need to clamp the meter to the line splitter and also use the leads from the meter to plug into the Line Splitter to make these measurements. In the UK, CEF sell a decent Line Splitter for about £50. This meter doesn't measure some of the stuff that more expesive meters do, like Harmonic Distortion etc. but it does a good job on the basics. I can recommend the HP-570N if you need a more general clamp meter). Read full review
