Works, but you get what you pay for
I'm just back from a 2000+ mile trip running one of these in my T2 on a 1600 dual port engine. The good: - The carb arrived very quickly, and was very well packaged. - I am pleased with the quality of the casting and the supplied mounting hardware. - I was able to adjust it without any problems - It came with a 127 main jet and a 55 idle jet, and included an additional 137 main and 60 idle. - It has all three vacuum ports with removable rubber caps to block off the ones you don't need. - I didn't need to modify the accelerator pump linkage to fit my alternator. - It worked! The bad: The idle cut-off solenoid failed after about 1000 miles. With power applied, the plunger would jump in and out rapidly and at random. This turned out to be a bad connection between the coil inside the ... I'm just back from a 2000+ mile trip running one of these in my T2 on a 1600 dual port engine. This turned out to be a bad connection between the coil inside the solenoid and the solenoid casing (ground). I was able to fix it by opening up the solenoid and re-positioning the coil bobbin to get a better connection. I expect it will fail again eventually. I've had mediocre fuel economy from this carb. I was getting about 25mpg from an original Solex carb, this one is giving me 23mpg with the same main and idle jets. (Of course this could be caused by other factors such as bad tuning etc). Overall, I would say you get what you pay for - this carb certainly works but I'm not sure how long it will last. I expect I will replace it with a rebuild original when I can get my hands on one.
