This is one of James Horner's best film music compositions. From a time, when he was still at the beginning of a very promising & successful career, and I should add, long before his output turned out one predictable score after another, with almost every new movie he delivered the score to. "Brainstorm" is not a very good film. It has it's flaws due to the difficulty to transfer the human mind, particularly the feelings of the film's characters on film. The special effects are nice to look at but they certainly don't convince you that you're seeing something close to the human spirit. It's just a form of virtuoso fire works on film. The story actually remains fascinating to this day. It deals with the old desire of man to conserve for others the human spirit, the feelings and memories ...

It makes you think about your mortality which we usually avoid. This project and it's device are taken over by the military and intelligence agencies for more sinister purposes. I did not like it's portrayal of the government as strictly an evil entity. I had it on the old CED format and wanted to get the DVD for better sound and picture quality plus in wide screen. Douglas Trumbell did a fine job considering Natalie ...
