Lens arrived as new in a new condition box and as desired. The dispatch time was a little longer than I would've liked but it still arrived within the estimated dispatch time upon purchase. Once it was dispatched it arrived (to Ireland) promptly, tracked and had to be signed for. Communication was very good and answered all of my questions promptly and professionally, and provided invoice for my own needs. (Lens is from Australia region for info) . Unique, might not be good.
The lens is good value. It is a unique item because of 0,95f specifications. It is fully manual. The construction is solid, the lens case looks pretty good, leather case. Now on to the performance and usage. To be honest this lens is a "mixed beast". At 0,95f it is sharp enough, but it is pretty hard to get a descent focus. This lens is not for those who look for a fast focusing action. The DOF is very thin that is why it is hard to focus precise. Also 0,95f is not the same as 0,95T - this lens is "darker" than 0,95. Sometimes I find it strange that in dark conditions this lens is not that much different from 1,8f or 1,4f lenses. In fact nikkor 55mm 1,2f looks to be "brighter" in T stops regard (that is the only fast prime I have next to Mitakon, so I can test them both). The bokeh of ... The lens is good value. The bokeh of this lens is smooth if you photograph subjects from the close distance and it gets distracting when you get back a little, so in order to really use the 0,95f you need to nail the distance right. This lens does not have enough "3D pop" effect, the subject does not stand out enough from the blurred background. Some old vintage fast 50mm lenses separate planes better than this lens and they also have more character. This Mitakon is more on the aberration controlled side - it has some of the Sigma ART lenses qualities - the image looks very clean, smooth and aberration free. 0,95f at sunny conditions is a little challenging, there will be some CA, ghosting and flares. But considering the fact that it is this extreme aperture value, I would say it is made very good. 0.95f is not the perfect aperture for portraits, because of the narrow DOF, the face of a person sometimes can get two separated focused areas which looks odd, also if you focus to the tip of a nose the eyes are completely blurred and vice versa, so in order to have a good picture, the distance between your subject is very important. The lens has 9 aperture blades. It would be better to have more with this extreme lens, because already at 2f the highlights in the background starts to form a hexagonal shape instead of an oval. With more aperture blades this problem wont be noticeable at 2f or even at 2,8f. The lens hood is pretty bad :/ does not fit good and I cant use it or dont want to use it at all.. The focusing ring has a long trow. Overall this lens is a special tool. It is more a collectors item than a photographers work tool. It can be a fun to use experience and it is made mostly for a hobby purpose. It is like a special effect lens - it is fun to have it delivers different, unique results. But for my taste it lacks something, it may be character it may be soul, it just looks too smooth and not special enough, not the look you would expect from a "magical" 0,95f lens, it just looks too simple considering the extreme specifications that it features. I give it 4 stars, because it is still one of the few 0.95f lenses that covers FF format, the price is decent considering the competition, it has a good build quality, good lens case that comes with it and it is fun to use item :)
