Beirut im Libanon stand in der Kreuzzugszeit von der Eroberung 1110 durch die Kreuzfahrer bis zum endgultigen Fall 1291 unter christlicher Herrschaft. Anfanglich war es eine Kastellanie, ab ca. 1125 eine Seigneurie des Kreuzfahrerkonigreichs Jerusalem unter der Familie Brisebarre, unterbrochen nur 1187-1197 von einem muslimischen Zwischenspiel. Es gibt dazu nur einen Aufsatz von 1949, der nur das 12. Jahrhundert behandelt. Um 1165 vertrieb der Konig die Brisebarre aus Beirut. Nach einem Zwischenspiel ostlich des Jordan wurden sie abgefunden mit der winzigen Herrschaft Blanchegarde im Philisterland. Als 1187 das ganze Reich an Sultan Saladin verloren ging, kapitulierte auch Beirut. Erst 1197 konnten deutsche Kreuzfahrer die Stadt zuruckgewinnen. Um 1205 wurde dort die Familie Ibelin installiert, die in mannlicher Linie herrschte bis 1265, in weiblicher bis 1291. Am Ende verkummerte die Seigneurie zu einem mamlukischen Protektorat bis zur Kapitulation von 1291, die Beirut auf Dauer den Mamluken auslieferte. Neben der politischen Geschichte werden auch die Struktur der Seigneurie, Handel und Wirtschaft sowie kirchliche Einzelprobleme behandelt. Hans Eberhard Mayer, geboren 1932, war 1956-1967 Mitarbeiter der Monumenta Germaniae Historica in Munchen, danach bis 1997 Professor fur mittelalterliche Geschichte an der Universitat Kiel. Seine Forschungen gelten ganz uberwiegend den Kreuzzugen und Kreuzfahrerstaaten.

Item was delivered as advertised however it was not delivered in a box which allowed it to receive some minor damage. Book was in 2 very durable form fitted vinyl/plastic bags which would have been great had then been placed in a box to protect it. Seller was very easy to discuss issue with and the damage is slight.
