You do have to fill it with a lot of air in order for the ground to not be felt completely as you're lying down. When you sit or stand on this mattress pad, you are able to feel the ground. The material is a little loud when you move around. Also, I couldn't figure out how to use the foot inflator so I ended up using an inflator I had already.
