  • An OK film to watch when there's nothing else on the TV.

An OK film, which gives a good insight into the role of some women during WW2, but it was incredibly slow as it was not at all what I was expecting, which was a dramatization based on the life of Nancy Wake, where I would have expected a little more action. Instead this was a love story with some war association with it.

Tangled love story about a Scotswoman joining the French Resistance and searching for her shot-down pilot lover. The Charlotte Gray character does virtually nothing to help the fight against the Nazis and has no apparent guerrilla skills and one wonders why the British thought it would be a neat idea to parachute her into France in the first place. Pretty French scenery and a great train attack are highlights but apart from that this is an often turgid romance. Cate Blanchett gives a great performance but it is just not enough.

The cast are superb but the story and direction they have to follow is without doubt, inept. You are left guessing at times and without the knowledge of the book, I would have been completely lost in many places. The only thing that was in its favour was the location in France - that is beautifully and ...
