    Love DEXTER!!!

    A great read. Even if you have seen the show, it lets your imagination add in more details. Also I like how it references Florida (ie. places and local Miami spots) and there is more Spanish references which make it more realistic than the show. I can't get enough of Dexter. So glad this Jeff Linday writer came up with this eery but sensational/ twisted character. One actually starts to feel like they empathize with the serial killer.

    Get into the Mind of a Serial Killer

    First thing to know is that the books and the tv series is quite a bit different. That being said... I at first found it odd to be reading a book that was in first person point of view from a serial killer's viewpoint. But the descriptions of the people and events around him were just too entertaining to let go of. Dexter truly has no feeling one way or the next about the people or things around him. Most are just there to "disguise" what he really is. Dexter is a blood-splatter specialist for the Miami-Dade police. His sister is in vice (but wants to be a detective) in the same police station. Before them, their father, Harry (Dexter's adoptive father), was also a highly decorated cop. Dexter has an attractive girlfriend who has two kids. He brings in donuts for himself and a lab ...

    Serial murderers can be nice.

    I am one to buy books before watching it on TV or in theatres; hence, the purchase. If you like the whimsical side of Hannibal Lechter then you will love the humor of the antagonist character of Dexter. Dexter is a serial murderer who enjoys dismembering and fileting his prey. He is a "good" serial murderer in that he only kills "bad" people. He also works in the Miami Homicide division as a blood splatter analyst. His sister is also in homicide and he aids her in deciphering clues of other serial murderers. In that he is a warped expert himself, his perspective is always helpful to his dearly devoted sister. Do not read this book if you have anything else important going on...you will be glued to your seat. This book is a fabulously scary and fun read.

    One of the funniest books I was ever required to read!!

    I bought Darkly Dreaming Dexter for a Serial Killer class I took at my University. It was a summer class, and my time was limited to one week. I could not put the book down once I started reading it. Jeff Lindsay wrote this book so well that I found myself staying up after midnight reading it. The book was funny, even though it was about a serial killer who is a neat freak. Jeff Lindsay also stayed true to the type of serial killer that Dexter was, organized. I have never seen the Showtime Series about the book, but I dont feel like anyone needs to watch the show to enjoy the book. The characters in the book felt like real people to me. The writing was that good. Dont let the cover of the book turn you off, anyone that picks up this book is going to have a hard time putting it ...

    Not the tv series, but a book you wont want to put down!

    Im a huge fan of the series, so of course, when I found out about the books I was desperate to get my hands on them! I soon learned that the Dexter in the books and the Dexter from the show are not 100% identical. The Dexter in the book seemed...colder, more empty of emotion than the tv version. He's not as perfect at what he does as his tv counterpart. He's more believable. This book is definitely not the tv series. It is its own separate, and captivating story. The characters are the same as the tv versions, yet different, each in their own way. Jeff Lindsay is a great author, and I love his writing style. I definitely recommend the Dexter books to anyone wanting a good read.
