Other non approved items tend to stop working soon or are unreliable in my experience even though the genuine Apple adapters tend to be a bit flimsy. This cable is new and connects easily. The cost is fairly reasonable. Hopefully it will last a reasonable time. I plan to reinforce the cable with tape in order to prevent it flexing and breaking.

I have found that my headphone cable was the point of fault and not the iPhone jack which worked properly when I replaced the headphone cable with a spare one. So Ian retaining the iPhone jack supplied as suitable and tested to be working fine. Sorry for the initial negative response.
