A fun special with a dynamic, exciting new doctor
I have been full of anticipation for the new doctor's, Ncuti Gatwa's first outing, and I had already seen trailers for it. The curious thing about Jodie's era, (my favourite), was that there were no festive specials. She had new year specials and a Halloween special. I don't care about this, since I don't bother with the festive season anyway, but that made this special the first one I had seen, since the festive special that introduced Jodie of course, Twice Upon A Time. I was eager to get this one as soon as possible. From the trailer alone, and from the ending to the last special, with the bi-regeneration, I found Ncuti to be a dynamic, exciting new doctor and he made it his own from the first frame. I also found Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday to be a most likeable companion, with ... The story moves along at a great pace, contains some wonderful moments, and it reminded me of a few movies from the eighties too, which is no bad thing. I won't say which movies it reminded me of, because it is unimportant, but it was a lot of fun. I can't say a lot about what I thought about it later, since that could give away spoilers, but I will say that all the way through, it kept me riveted. Ncuti was brilliant, Millie was wonderful and I am still buzzing with anticipation for series 14, the same anticipation I felt for Dr Who series 13. Nice to still feel that after Jodie's farewell. Welcome Ncuti and Millie!!!
