    Jim Jarmusch - Ghost Dog [2000]

    'Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai' is a film written and directed by Jim Jarmusch and starring Forest Whitaker. Plot: Ghost Dog (Whitaker) is saved from death by a local mobster called Louie and subsequently considers himself Louie's retainer (an individual indebted to another). He becomes a hitman for the Italian Mafia, working through Louie and contacting Louie through a bird. A homing pigeon. Ghost Dog also practices Hagakure (a practical and spiritual guide for a Japanese warrior). Ghost Dog's only friend is Haitian ice cream vendor, Raymond, until he meets a young girl, Pearline. Later, after a hit that Ghost Dog successfully accomplishes, trouble begins with Louie and Louie's boss, Vargo. Ghost Dog must take the entire mob down, sparing only Louie, his retainer.     Outstanding acting, excellent plot, edge of your seat

    A modern day understanding of Ancient Japanese history, a taste of the Samurai, with a twist of the Mob thrown in for good measure. I like this film for alot of reasons. It shows the melding of a number of cultures all trying to survive in the tough streets of down town U.S. This film dictates that you watch it more than the usual once, that comes with alot of other films. Its clever, in the way that it makes you think, it tries to get you to understand certain phylosophies , so much so that you have to come back to the film again to re-watch certain schenes, to get that better understanding. The acting was brilliant by the leads, you could almost beleive that you are there, in the film there with the cast. There is a pletherer of popular stars in this film, all of whom put forward a ...

    A stylish and wistful take on the samurai-revenge genre

    In some ways a bizarre film, I bought this because I love the cult of the samurai as depicted in films. It did not disappoint, although don't buy it if you want fight sequences. It is a stylish film, with brilliant but unusual soundtrack, and striking cinematic moments, punctuated by snippets of genuine samurai philosophy. It is also strangely detached, with the motivations of characters wreathed in mystery, while none of them, even the 'baddies', are truely unsympathetic - there is a great sence of humanity there. For me this made the film greater, as I like a director who leaves a little space for the audience to do some work of their own. Anyway, the tone of the film is entirely in keeping with the character and situation of the central protagonist who is not quite of this world, but ...

    odd classic

    good well acted film bit too clever for some. its a good drama that could only end one way and the film maker did not hollywoodize it thank god. forest whitiker at his best and yes i still can'y spell

    Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai

    Awesome movie, based around the Japanese book Hagakure (Book of the Samurai). Maybe somewhat slow-moving for some people, but if you like Forest Whitaker then you'll enjoy it & you'll probably wanna read Hagakure once you've watched it (just as I did - and yes, its a mint book).
