Excellent "hidden gem" zoom lens!
I remember Tamron from my early days of photography back in the 70's. It was always seen as a top-end aftermarket brand for serious usage and to be preferred over the likes of Clubman, Sirius, et al. Therefore, I was not at all hesitant in looking at this lens, assuming that they would have probably improved a lot over their very good earlier offerings. A quick search of the web supplied me with some reviews (all positive), and even Tamron's own page about this range of lenses.This reassured me that it was quite a recent design and gave me some info on what the "IF" feature achieves. I was looking for a replacement for a 35-70mm zoom on my Pentax SLR that would cover a greater range, but still be fairly light & compact. This (slightly rare) lens fitted the bill as it goes up to 105mm at ... I remember Tamron from my early days of photography back in the 70's. Results on my first roll of film with it did not disappoint! Clear, sharp contrasty (but not too much).Easily on a par with a couple of Nikon AF-D zooms I had a while back. We always wish for more, don't we? Well for this lens, it would have been nice if it had a f3.5 max aperture (f2.8 would probably make it too expensive).but apart from that, I'm very pleased.
