This was an enjoyable, and much more thoughtful, film than I was expecting. The fantasy elements are kept to a minimum, but are nonetheless fun and creatively rendered. The two leads are both very good and I'm sure we'll be seeing much more of them. What made this movie stand out, oddly, was the realism. The real magic in this movie isn't the fantasyland of Terabithia, but the magic inside the very real people who create it. There are some darker moments that would be best discussed by the entire family after the film. I recommend this movie, but with the warning that you may need a tissue and will have to talk about a few things with your younger kids.
I was soo impressed with this moving film! Boy did it take me back..Kids can be soo cruel! The love and Friendship between the two lead Children is both moving and funny! Not since "Steel Magnolias" have I ever gone from laughing to crying soo quickly..my Partner actually had to hold me close to calm me down..This is definitely a must see film for Kids of all ages..be it the bullied or the bullies. "Bridge To Terabithia" is a life lesson from beginning to end. Parents should also pay attention they can learn a few things too..I just wish I had seen this movie over 15 years ago if I had I would have been better able to handle the pain I was to go through later in life..if you get the chance rent or buy this film grab your box of kleenex and sit right down and have a good cry fest!! Junk food and soda a must have addition!Read full review
The children like this movie so much, they named their nearby creek "Terabithia." The movie and the separate book are both very good. There is a death in the movie, so parents should be aware. This shows the creative friendship of two rather lonely children. Recommended.

We saw Bridge to Terabithia first at the theater & my 7 year old daughter loved it so now we've bought the DVD. I enjoyed it, but it was hyped to have lots of special effects like Narnia & I didn't feel they expanded on the make-believe part of it enough. They give you a taste at the very end, but you never really feel like you get to Terabithia. We haven't read the book yet, but will just to see how the movie compares & matches up. It is a very sweet story of friendship, acceptance, loss & dealing with bullies (at school & at home). The movie really is a good one for both kids & adults, I just left the theater wanting more...
It was well done based based on the book that I read in sixth grade a stay true to the story so if you read the book, then you’ll enjoy this movie

What a great film! This version has the right combination of actors, music, and special effects. This film compliments the book and brings to life most of what the author was trying to achieve. The special effects are wonderful and are akin to what real children who play in real woods might imagine. (I know that these characters would have fit in with the beasts I battled!) By all means, read the book, BUY THE BOOK, pass it on to your children--but give this film a go, too. Cool bonus features--the author reveals why she wrote such a touching book in the first place, and there is a great music video by Annasophia Robb. Enjoy!
I will be forever moved by this movie!! Here I am a grown man fighting back tears in front of my 11 year old son, even having to turn away from him several times, barely able to handle the emotion this movie delivers. Coming from a horror flick fan that phases out the kiddie movies, this one captured my interest and never let go. I found myself captured by the real life hardships of being a kid in school, many of which brought me back to my school days. Whether you were the Bully or the Bullied, whether you were the new kid or one that wasn't able to go to school with the latest fads, this movie will force you to ponder your school days and add a special ingredient of that one special friend you could escape life's hardships with and move into a world of fantasy. Imagine how absolutely horrible it would be to have that world ripped away! The Boy took that pain and turned it into something good by reaching out and making someone else feel special! To label this as one of them feel good movies for kids would be grossly inaccurate as there is little "feel good" qualities about it with the exception of two kids with the need to escape from their own realities finding each other...but even that doesn't last long. Imagine having a million bucks then losing it overnight... I recommend this one to the young and the old, to parents, to classrooms, to everyone!! One other movie that had somewhat of a similar but lesser affect with me was "Pay it Forward" and then there was E.T.Read full review
We have seen this movie on TV a few times and decided to get it for our kids. (13,11,8 & 6) Kind of a fantasy movie with good effects for younger viewers. Also covers well some areas a lot of films don't. Bullys, feeling left out, escaping to your backyard, good reliable friends. No violence, no language, no inuendos. I don't know if this was ever released in theaters. I never heard of it until we saw it on tv. It's a little Harry Potter'ish but without all the witchcraft. I'll even watch it with the kids once in a while. Didn't expect the ending, but it does pull it together. Dad in his 40's
My mom rented this movie for my eight-year-old "baby" sister and I to watch while she was at work. At first my sister, Mariah thought is was rather boring and dumb, but as the movie went on she started to like it. By the time she had finished the movie she was crying about Jess's loss and hit the remote to watch it again, this time with Mom. SHE END UP ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT! I read the book two times, the first being in 6th grade and the second being in 8th grade. The movie stayed very much with the plotline of the book, unlike some movies. Ever watch a movie and decide to read the book later on only to find that book and movie had different plotlines? Frustrating and disappointing, isn't it! I especially loved that this movie taught about accepting others' differences, friendship, courage, imagination, dealing with grief and bereavement (loss of a loved one), and respect. The special effects were absolutely wonderful and very cool, and added a surreal, imaginative yet realistic dimension to the movie. Everybody who worked on this film did an excellent job---very talented group! Yes, Jess's dad does use some "colorful language," but there is profanity in the book too. (Not that it makes it right or okay. In fact I actually went to my 6th grade teacher about the "bothersome language" when I read it for the first time.) For those who find swearing bothersome or offensive, you may want to edit out the "bad" language while watching this movie. FUN FAMILY FILM FOR ALL AGES! HIGHLY RECOMMEND SEEING THIS ONE!Read full review
I liked everything about this movie to be honest with you, the acting, the scenery, totally everything except for the fact that the young lady lost her life toward the end. She is a great little actress though and should go far in the movie world if she wants to. I bought it because I saw the movie and fell in love with it, and because this particular young lady was in the lead. I have all of her movies so far, plus photos and autographs. I am one of her biggest fans. Thank you for the opportunity to express this in this way.
