M-G-M really broke the bank when making High Society (1956), casting not only one world-renowned musician (Bing Crosby), not even two world-renowned musicians (Frank Sinatra), but three musicians known the world over (Louis Armstrong). Add to that Cole Porter's music and the soon-to-be princess Grace Kelly and you've got one top-rate movie musical. High Society is a remake of The Philadelphia Story (1940), starring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, and Jimmy Stewart, except this time with excellent songs and the all-knowing Satchmo character incorporated. The original version is also wonderful. You should watch both. Crosby plays C.K. Dexter Haven, a jazz musician and the meddling former husband of Tracy Lord (Kelly), who is about to get married to George Kittredge (John Lund). Two newspaper reporters (Sinatra and Celeste Holm) arrive to cover the wedding of these Newport elite, but hitches are on the horizon. The film has several great songs, including "True Love," "Now You Has Jazz," and "Well, Did You Evah?" This last number between Crosby and Sinatra is very memorable and features a hilarious exchange in which Bing sings his signature "bah bah bah bah boom," prompting Frank to complain, "Don't dig that kind of croonin', chum." Bing aptly responds, "You must be one of the newer fellas." You're sure to enjoy everything High Society has to offer. As Tracy Lord would say, this film is yar!Read full review
This is a movie to keep you smiling from start to finish! How could it miss with a cast that features Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Grace Kelly, and Celeste Holm! The duet by Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra of "What a Swell Party This Is" is delightful, and the song titled "True Love" and sung by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly came from this movie. This was the last movie made by Grace Kelly, who shortly afterward became Princess Grace of Monaco. This movie is a remake of the 1940's film, "The Philadelphia Story", with the musical score of Cole Porter added. Top-notch in every way. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys lighthearted musicals with extrodinary stars!
Great stars and wonderful production and Grace Kelly looks great. This movie deserves a blu-ray - How about that WB?

This is a wonderful, classy, musical version of "The Philadelphia Story", which was originally made by Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and Jummie Stewart without music. Crosby, Kelly, and Sinatra do a great job with the remake. Funny and charming. Worth the time to watch!
Loved both this and original Philadelphia Story. Bing Crosby's acting doesn't replace Cary Grant's in my opinion but then Cary Grant probably couldn't sing like Bing. Great light hearted entertainment. Would highly recommend it for a good "get away from it all" evening of fun.
Love this movie. Has lots of great stars. Grace Kelly is a jewel to watch, very beautiful person. A young Frank Sinatra has funny scenes and sings. Lots of good music and scenery. Louis Armstrong is another great musician that love to watch and listen too. Been looking for this movie for some time. Glad to finally own it.
Delightful. Frank Sinatra singing with Bing Crosby doesn’t get any better than that.

Musical remake of The Philadelphia Story, with Cole Porter music, Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong. Who could ask for anything more? The duet between Crosby and Sinatra, Well Did You Evah? is simply a delight to watch. Beautiful costumes, wonderful musical score - I bought this copy for my daughter so she'd quit asking to borrow mine.
