The Tenchu series started off really great on the original Playstation. in this game you can either play as Rikimaru or female ninja Ayame. The choice changes some dialogue and actually cuts out one or two fights in the framework of the game. Basically the object is kind of like in Metal Gear: Avoid being detected by the enemy. But at the end of each stage is usually a boss of some kind. Some are more stronger and well-armed than others, so don't worry, the first stage boss is practically a cakewalk since his only attack is a gun, and all you gotta do is keep wailing on the guy so he can't shoot you. Tenchu is also one of those games where the more you play, the better you'll get, and you'll eventually find you'll shave minutes and perhaps even hours off your game play. After you finish each stage you'll get a score and a rank, ranging from Best(Grand master) to Worst(Thug). Your score will depend on how many times you are spotted and how many kills you performed undetected. Mostly though it's just about getting to the goal undetected. You're not encouraged to kill in this game, but sometimes it's unavoidable and in a best case scenario you can just sneak up behind an enemy and just press the attack button to take them down. As you might expect, Tenchu is a pretty difficult game. There are saves, but especially towards the end of the game the stages get very long, the health power-ups get scarce, and you may die. Tenchu is a fun diversion though and will make you feel like you are a Ninja fighting to preserve the tenets of honor. Some of the dialogue(especially Ayame's) is cheesy, but that's not important. What's important is Tenchu is fun, entertaining and a classic on the original playstation.Read full review
This is where the TENCHU franchise all started, and it started with a bang! Before Tenchu, gamers had never seen a real ninja game before. One where you can actually be stealthy. So it was a dream come true when this game debuted. You play as either Rikimaru or Ayame before they become full-fledged ninja's. You may recognize those names from later Tenchu titles. The story in this game is the best out of all the others, save Tenchu: Fatal Shadows. The graphics are good for 1998. The controls are easy to get used to but hard to master due to the camera angles being annoying and switching all the time. The gameplay is great fun. You can sneak up on someone and kill them silently, which includes a cool cut scene. The music is great, total feudal Japan. The sound effects are pretty good, but they recycle often. The voice acting is okay. But the thing I really love about this game is that the boards are some of the most fun that Tenchu has to offer. Do yourself a favor and start you Tenchu experience here!Read full review
I enjoyed this game for a long time. Then one day, the copy I had stopped working. It took me a while to find another copy. Once I got this one, everything plays just the way I remember. LOVE IT!

Rikimaru and Ayame are your two main characters. You can choose either one, doesnt matter what order. The things i loved about this game is the scenery, humor, music is fantastic, and how unsexed this game is. meaning you battle both men and women. there is a training mode, plus a cheat code you can enter, meaning you can sort of program everything, like for example....its been so long since i done this, but i was able to program any character in the game i wanted to be present THERE in the training room. man i remember i made like a whole party of them as if they were sitting around having good time with each other. in the item screen before you enter a level, there are cheat codes for this as well, you can increase the number of items you have, also both character have one outfit they can where.Read full review
My nephews and I really enjoy playing this game! I still have great admiration for old games like Tenchu. They bring me back to a time when game developers focused more on actual gameplay and storyline instead of how cool the graphics are. I mean, who wants to play a video game based almost solely on how stunning the graphics are? Not me, that's for sure. Anyway, Tenchu is a fun and challenging piece of work. Give it a try. You just might enjoy it as well as seek out some more nostalgic little gems like Tenchu! L :)
I was afraid it would be scratched to bad to play but was in ok condition. Hairline scratches only so far it plays well

Classic video. Super nostalgic. Hasn’t aged well but if you played it as a kid, it was awesome.

This game is awesome, the first real stealth strategy game that lead the way for games like Metal Gear!

The biggest reason I bought this game was for nostalgic reasons. I remember playing this game at my cousins house for hours in the summer of '98. The stealth is fun and the use of the grapple hook and walking on the roofs of buildings is what makes this game for me. The graphics are classic PSone. The martial art moves that the characters perform where unique for the time and still hold true.
Loved this game when it originally came out. Had to get it and put it in my collection.
