"Tales of Terror," like other Mill Creek Entertainment 50-movie compilations, attracted me because it contains titles I have always wanted to see but have not been able to obtain individually, e.g., "The Sadist" with Arch Hall Jr. In fact, a number of films on "Tales of Terror" are reviewed in the "Forgotten Horrors" series of books started by George E. Turner and Michael H. Price, and now continued by Price and John Wooley. Some of these titles include the Afrucan American-themed horror items "Chloe," "Midnight Shadow" and "The Devil's Daughter," rarities that I believe the lover of obscure or little-known films would be otherwise hard-pressed to locate. I think the inclusion of some of the Italian-made horror films starring Barbara Steele are interesting choices for inclusion in this collection, although "Long Hair of Death" and "Terror Creatures from the Grave" definitely are not classic examples of the genre. The only drawback I see to the collection is the quality of some of the films, but since these were taken from what are probably the best prints available, that's not the fault of Mill Creek Entertainment. As in "Dark Crimes" (really one of Mill Creek's best) and "Historical Classics," this compilation is a must for those seeking films that you don't see on TV at all anymore and I only look forward to future collections from this company.Read full review
Tales of terror has an abundance of "B" movie scare flicks you don't find on re-run channels anymore. I really like that it came as a "mega-pack" which was an awsome deal, both in content and financially. I can't say that I have any dislikes regarding this item. This item was purchased as a Christmas gift, and the recipient absolutely loved it!
I loved most of these movies - mainly for showing what was available for the times they were made. You cannot compare them to todays box office hits. Watching these movies is like a step back in time. They bring up old memories of what the movies were like before today's special effects. It is great to see these old timers - and brings a smile to the face. Watching these oldies allow one to see how it was done in the "old days".
Another good 50 pack, with some great stuff like the original THE BAT (now I can get rid of my VHS version!!) Anyone who'd order this knows what they're getting, so I have no complaints. One small note--it says 50 MOVIES, not FEATURES. A 27 minute TV pilot is a movie, I admit. And where else could I find such a rare item? Hardly any repeats with other bonus packs. Alas, My original rating would be 4/5, but I have a hard and strict rule-if you add an onscreen logo, or "bug" to movies I've paid good money for, you automaticly get the lowest score possible.
Some are truly so terrible they're unwatchable. But 75% of the pack is good. Definitely worth the asking price.

This was bought as a gift for the horror movie buff in our family. It has some of the classics like "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari." These are some of the "B" movies that most people think of as the "bad black and whites," but they are so much fun to watch especially on a gloomy Saturday afternoon with the curtains drawn, a pizza, and a Dr. Pepper, just like the good ol' days.
When you are a baby boomer that grew up on "creature features", a collection of the "classics" is most desirable! Many great memories of being "terorized" as a child and preteen are within this collection. If you were hypnotized by the "Outer Limits" and control of your black and white television set was being taken care of by ????? this is a collection for you!
Undoubtedly this is one of the best collections of the worst movies ever made. Truly an international disaster, with plenty of awful horror flicks from all across the world. For the aficionado of the strange and badly made horror movie only. Heavy drinking will enhance your experience, and may be the only way to get through some of these.
These boxed sets of 50 movies are great! Sure some of them are cheesy and camp and yes one or two bad but big deal; overall this is a steal for those of us who grew up watching the black and white. Caefull you may become addicted to them!
