ReviewsFinancial Times - It's a beautiful film because it isn't afraid of beauty's uglinesses. Artists don't personify the ideal or dazzling worlds they envision. They are the workshop, not the work. So it's right, in a biopic, that we see the mess of the creative life., Empire - Shimmering with awards potential, Leigh's glorious picture is a hilarious, confounding, wholehearted and dazzlingly performed portrait of an artist as an ageing man.

What other title could there be? Mr Turner suits perfectly!

Brilliantly acted by all of the cast. Utterly believable. Special mention must be made about how excellently Dorothy Atkinson played the part of Hannah. She acted superbly and I doubt that any other actress could play the part anywhere near as well as Dorothy. At times very amusing and occasionally sad. Highly recommended.

    Good but no cigar.

Looks amazing and Timothy Spall is exceptional as always... A very different Mike Leigh though... I guess he wanted to produce a work that solely focuses on the artist in a realistic way... forfeiting some of his rich storytelling style... It's curiously flat in atmosphere... But well worth watching.. especially if you admire the artist.

  • Boring

I didn't enjoy this film at all, I went to watch Mrs Lowry and son and heard someone stay that this film waa better, but my personal thought there's no comparison. I love Timothy spall but not this one

  • Rubbish

I have tried three times to watch this strange film but have found it to be depressing. As I may add have other of my friends. However don't let me influence you not to try this film. I expected too much of Timothy Spall I suppose. He usually raises a film to greater heights. Strangely I had watched Topsy Turvy the day before (Same director) and found it shared certain reference points but there the similarity ended. Now Topsy Turvy is brilliant!
