I recently bought this collection of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon first season set on DVD. I loved this show as a child and have fond memories of certain episodes. I had heard a few months back that Time-Life finally released the complete series including Slimer! and the Real Ghostbusters on DVD and immediately I wanted it. The price was steep , though, because it was in a large collection of the whole series. I decided to hold out on buying it because I couldn't afford to spend that much(about $180 USD) on an old cartoon DVD set at the time. I'm glad I waited because recently they've started to release the DVDs individually in season sets. I picked the first season up on DVD from eBay for a mere $20 USD which was 5 dollars better than Wal-Mart, the cheapest carrier I had been to. The quality of the DVD is top-notch. Time-Life really did well on this one. There are tons of extra features too like introductions to episodes by writers and other staff. There are storyboards and a booklet that comes with it describing the episodes in detail and including trivia for the episode. I'm so glad I bought this DVD! The only drawback is the sound is sometimes a bit off, but this may be how the show was all along, I don't know, it's been so long since I saw it on TV. I just don't like that I can't hear the music well sometimes, it's SO good! However, the voices are clear and it sounds like they may have cleared up the sound quality along with the video. Like I said, excellent quality here. The Real Ghostbusters is just as great even now that I'm an adult! My three year old daughter loved it too, mainly because of the silly things Slimer does and how weird the ghosts and monsters look. It's nice to be able to watch shows that I loved as a kid with my child and this is a good one that I know she'll love as she grows older. It helps that I have the two Ghostbusters movies on DVD as well. This show has always been great because of the stories, the well done animation and the MUSIC. Not many people pay attention to the music, but it's really good. The voice actors are lively and fun and very talented. The characters of the movies are translated well for the most part in this show and that's part of why it holds up so well. It's a little bit goofier than the movies, but that's a given from a show for kids. I PURCHASED THE ANIMATED VERSION OF THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS SEASON ONE, FIVE DISC SET BECAUSE MY SONS ENJOYED THEM WHEN THEY WERE CHILDREN. NOW THAT THEY ARE GROWN WITH CHILDREN OF THEIR OWN, I THOUGHT MY GRANDCHILDREN WOULD ENJOY THEM AND THEY WERE VERY REASONABLY PRICED FOR BRAND NEW DVD'S. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED WITH MY PURCHASE AND MY GRANDCHILDREN ARE THRILLED WATCHING THE ANIMATED SHOWS THAT THEIR FATHERS USE TO WATCH. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE DVD'S IF YOU ARE INTO 1990'S ANIMATED CARTOON'S, KIDS STILL ENJOY THEM AND THE MUSIC.
You won't get commentary on all the episodes, but the commentary and features show just how much this show was a labor of love. You'll love the episodes and their balance. The stories are compelling and the premises work for the show. Characters are funny, and you'll find that someone of any age will enjoy this show, in all its silliness and style. Buy, borrow, or rent this and you will be thoroughly entertained.

Long after so many other classic shows have been released for home viewing, The Real Ghostbusters gets a 30 episode release. While you may look back at other 80's shows and presume them too hokey to still be entertaining don't think that of this series. It proves to be well animated and smartly written. I've been able to take off the nostalgia goggles before and some things really are dated or just for kids. This isn't. My hope is that the rest of the series is released in as much package for your buck. If you remember this series fondly buy it so they won't drag their feet with the remaining 117 episodes.
My 3 yr old son just loves the Ghostbusters. We brought Ghostbusters 1 and 2 DVD and on # 2 they have two episodes of "The Real Ghostbusters". Well he wanted more so i started to look around not knowing that "The Real Ghostbusters" were on DVD. The episodes are great for the whole family to watch. DVD's are great and my son just loves it. yes we got them for he X-mas present but he has been a good boy so Santa stop by a give him one presents early.
