According to legend, there was once a magical sword stuck in a sturdy rock, and whoever removed it would soon be deemed the king of all Britons. Disney's classic animated feature, SWORD IN THE STONE, tells the tale of the plucky lad who managed just that feat. Deep in the woods of medieval England, a young orphan boy called Wart has his heart set on becoming a knight's squire. Once he happens across the eccentric wizard Merlin, however, his future path changes significantly; along with his intelligent and chatty owl Archimedes, Merlin trains young Wart in the ways of wit, wisdom, and heart, preparing him for a life in the upper-echelons of English royalty. Just as his lessons are drawing to an end, Wart gets to try his hand at the legendary sword, and upon successfully removing it, goes on to become the nation's famed King Arthur. A sweet story about the might of the mind, the 1963 film features the voices of Sebastian Cabot (THE JUNGLE BOOK) and Rickie Sorensen (TARZAN), and lush, colorful imagery in the grand tradition of Disney animation artistry.

    A Movie From My Childhood

    I bought "The Sword In The Stone" for myself and my 7 year old grandson to watch. I can remember in the early 1960's my grandmother taking me to the downtown movie theater to watch this movie during one of our Saturday "downtown" shopping trips we made every week on the city bus. I was probably about the same age as my grandson and really enjoyed this movie along with a coloring and punch-out book that was a tie-in to the movie. After watching it again, I enjoyed it just as much all these years later and my grandson and grown daughter also loved it. Such good memories and such a fun innocent movie from a wonderful era.

    A classic boy fairy tale

    Disk arrived promptly and in great condition. I remember this film from when I was a child. I was looking for classic Disney to share with my son. This has a good story line about the value of learning and using brain over brawn. The medieval setting is very interesting for any young boy with sward fighting, jousting, and magic. My personal favorite part is the dual between Merlin and Madam Mim.
