Overall, a good product for the price. Solid contruction, sharp/hard pins, gives fairly consistent readings on a given material; very useful for locating damp areas. Without knowing how well the material you're measuring relates to the presets, I feel a reliable absolute % figure is unlikely. Plaster isn't directly stated as supported (8 Presets: Four wood grades, Karstenite???, Cement/Lime Mortars, Brick). LCD viewing angles average so "hold" button useful. A Backlight would've been handy.

    BEWARE

    This is a good value little tool that will do the job. It's not the best quality and as with most of these type of cheap measuring devices the buttons are awfully loose meaning you have to store it carefully so the power button is not accidentally pressed, or (as it says in the instructions (as with ANY other device)) if you're storing it for a bit take out the battery!!! Yes I would buy another should I need, but if your life depends on it or you are going to be knocking it about then it may prove prudent to expend further funds and buy a better quality one.

    Moisture meter

    Very good value for money. I use it as an indicator as even kiln dried timber can show up to 10% reading. If you do several readings over an area or length, you will soon see which parts have more moisture. Found it particularly useful in finding where damp was coming from on a shower room wall where the reading jumped from an average of 12 to 45 where the water was leaking through a small hole in the shower tray sealant. If you are into diy I definitely would have one in your toolbox at this price, it even came with a battery!

    Nifty little tester

    Bought this little tester to check damp in caravans. Neat little item in carry pouch. Two AA batteries provide the power and there is a handy lock function so you can reach difficult places and still see the result. I have used it alongside a professional tester and the results were very similar the only difference being the probes on this one leave pin holes in wallpaper, plaster wood etc.

    Great if a little cheaply made

    It's a bit rough & ready, and easy to accidentally turn on. But, as a means of testing what firewood is ready to burn on the stove - or spotting damp spots in walls and structures - it's absolutely ideal & for under twenty quid - a bargain!
