Notes
Tom Buechi (pronounced BEE-kee) is originally from Lancaster, New York and currenly hails from Southern California. Tom's guitar playing is heavily influenced by Nils Lofgren, Rory Gallagher, Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, Carlos Santana, B.B. King, Gary Moore and many others. His vocals have been described as a cross between Tom Petty and Mark Knopfler. Tom also performs live concerts in Second Life as Mance Moonwall (his Second Life persona). This is Tom's first album 'Living For Today'. Independently produced and distributed by him. Released in the fall of 2008. Professionally mastered at Disc Makers SoundLAB REVIEWS: Nick Gerard - Nothin' The Blues KJAZZ 88.1 FM - Long Beach, CA * 'Good stuff' * 'Very cool CD' Vanessa Franko - Audio File Riverside Press Enterprise - 11/26/08 * Buechi blends the best styles of guitar on his debut record. Songs such as 'It's All Right' have Latin tinges a la Santana. Other tracks are straight-up blues with no chaser. For instance, 'Homewrecker Blues' could be a candidate for George Thorogood and the Destroyers, one of those 'I'm a bad guy' blues songs with lots of solo work and a good groove. Another standout on the album, 'Good Girl Gone Wrong' has a Mark Knopfler kind of vibe. 'Scared' is the big ballad on the record. Rootstime - January 2009 He was born in Lancaster, New York and already plays guitar from his tenth, but now lives in Southern California and played in a dozen bands in these two states., and for the moment he is still playing in a duo 'Tom & Stan'. On this debut recording that he recorded, produced and distributed all by himself, he uses a multitude of styles, with his guitar centre stage. His voice is good, although it lacks some power. It is a nice mix of some Knopfler, Tom Petty and Springsteen's vocal styles. Like I already mentioned, Tom surely can call himself a multi-instrumental talent, because he plays all the instruments on these recordings, but it's his guitar playing that attracts the attention. He cites as his great influences Nils Lofgren, Rory Gallagher, Clapton and Santana. Especially the first name seems to have influenced him a lot, not only his guitar sometimes sounds like that of Nils, I even notice some vocal simularities. A very beautiful country tinged 'Good Girl Gone Wrong', for example, exudes all the atmosphere of his songs, with a beautiful slide solo in the middle. Also in this debut, some real blues, including songs with titles already stating this clearly: 'Homewrecker Blues', 'Everyday Blues' and Fairfax Blues ', also some real rock songs like the strong compositions 'Scared' and 'Living For Today', country rock, like in 'Raised On Heartache', and finally Tom shows his jazzy, relaxed side heard in the quiet rippling 'It's All Right' and 'Let It Ride' that both remind the work of Chris Rea All his own work, moreover, not a single cover. Looks like Tom Buechi (pronounced Bee-kee) can call this CD quite rightly so his own work from A to Z . Like our 'do-it-yourself' man Roger always says on TV, 'What you do yourself, is always done better.' And right he is! (RON)
