Synopsis
The New York Dolls played an integral role in laying the foundations of punk rock. By taking the flamboyant sass of Jagger and Richards to outrageous extremes and combining it with down-and-dirty rock 'n' roll, the Dolls -- fronted by icons David Johansen and Sylvan Sylvain -- brought the punk scene to a fever pitch and inspired both fans and musicians like the Sex Pistols and Marilyn Manson. From their origins in the street gangs of New York's outer boroughs, through their recent rebirth and the untimely death of bassist Arthur Kane, Trash offers a comprehensive look at these gender-bending scenesters. Featuring first-hand reminiscences, interviews with band members, revealing tour anecdotes, archival material, and 75 black-and-white photos, Trash covers every leopard-clad inch of these glamsters' heyday. Set mostly in the chaotic and creative maelstrom of the mid-'70s New York scene, the book also profiles the individual band members' post-Dolls careers., The New York Dolls played an integral role in laying the foundations of punk rock. Set mostly in the chaotic and creative maelstrom of the mid-70s New York scene, the book also profiles the individual band members post-Dolls careers.", During the first half of the 1970s, the New York Dolls established a hard-earned reputation as the last word in rock n roll hedonism, leaving a trail of magnificent destruction in their wake. Combining the attitude of the Rolling Stones, Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent with the romanticism of 1960s girl groups like the Shangri-Las and Crystals, the Dolls formulated the unlikely template for punk rock. Trash! recounts the full drug-fuelled story of the band, from their origins amidst the street gangs of New York s outer boroughs, through to their contemporary re-birth and the recent death of bassist Arthur Kane. Featuring a wealth of original interview material, the complete saga of the band is presented in all its sleaze-encrusted glory.

This is an outstanding seller to deal with. Fair prices that are more than reasonable in this economy. The product is in better condition than described, a true value for my money. Packaged and shipped well shows seller has concern for the products he sells to arrive in excellent condition. The seller is friendly and communicates timely with his customers. I highly recommend this seller and would do business again anytime. Thank you!

Great seller! Item is what I ordered; good communication; shipped promptly; good value. NOTE TO SELLER: packaging was NOT appropriate for item; it was a flimsy, plastic envelope, with no stiff material to prevent creases. The book came with two deep creases that involved the *entire* item: one is a 1" triangle lower left side (bound edge); the other is a 7" triangle on upper right side (open edge).

  • This is poignant if you were there back when the east village was fun!

This is an excellent account of the Dolls and their solo careers. Heart wrenching and honest, it's definitely worth reading. I think this book clarifies a lot for people whose memories might be a little foggy about the 70's. I know mine is! Lots of specific tour date info and great pictures. Thanks!
