About this product

Product Information

USA Today bestselling author Mary Daheim knows how to spin a mystery with a tight plot and captivatingly eccentric characters. And her vivid Pacific Northwest settinga character in itselfhas garnered her a plethora of devoted fans. Now her resourceful and resolute journalist Emma Lord is back with a new mystery to solveand an even tougher deadline to meet. Members of the Burl Creek Thimble Club, a quilting circle in small-town Alpine, Washington, are planning a fete to welcome back Genevieve Bayard, who left the group, and Alpine, decades ago. But Gen's homecoming is cut decidedly short when she dies at a dinner party. Emma Lord, owner and publisher of the local newspaper, The Alpine Advocate, immediately arrives on the scene to report the incident and sleuth her way to the truth. Though it appears that Gen wasn't adored by everyone in the Alpine community, her untimely death still comes as a shock. To help solve the mystery, Emma turns to Vida Runkel, the Advocate's trusty House & Home editor. Such a notorious story would normally have Vida chomping at the bit, but to Emma's surprise Vida is hesitant, even downright unwilling to get involved. The demise of Genevieve Bayard, however, isn't the only crime in Alpine. There has been a rash of burglaries, including at Emma's own cozy log cabin. Are the break-ins and the murder connected? As Emma digs, she uncovers a shocking scandal that may point the finger of guilt at one of her nearest and dearest . . . while single-handedly changing the history of Alpine itself.

This fragile item came very well packed on on time. The item was exactly as described. I have a lot of glass from this period about 140 years ago, and none of it is in mint condition like this one. It looks like it was made yesterday. I am very pleased with my purchase and the transaction.

  • THE ALPINE QUILT: The 17th Solid Mary Daheim Whodunit

What's not to like about a solid whodunit wherein one of the murder suspects advises another character (speaking of her undies), "Really, Darla, if it's genuine Belgian lace, I wouldn't sell it at any price, especially not on eBay." Especially not if it's USED lingerie — we all know eBay's rules about THAT. If it's new Belgian lace lingerie, well, that's a different story. But I digress. Genevieve Bayard has come back to the small town of Alpine, Washington, to be fêted by the local quilting society and to visit her son. But the reunion goes horribly awry when she keels over dead during dinner with her best friend. Emma Lord, owner and publisher of local newspaper "The Alpine Advocate", vows to investigate (as she always does) and tries as usual to enlist the help of her trusted House & ...

  • Emma Lord Mystery HARDCOVER 2005

In this story, Genevieve Bayard returns to Alpine for a reunion with women of the Burl Creek Thimble Club, a quilters group and also to see her son. Genevieve suddenly dies while having dinner with friends one evening. Alpine's newspaper editor, Emma Lord, investigates the death despite of being warned to back off from boyfriend, Sheriff Milo Dodge. Emma reveals a lot of little dark secrets and a possible affair Genevieve was having. All evidence points to Vida, who was Genevieve's best friend and Emma's co-worker. Emma goes into high gear to exonerate Vida, but stirs up a hornest nest of more secrets along the way. The whole story will come together just like a quilt, square by square. An intricate plot with many mazes. One of Ms. Danheim's better mystery's in this series.
