Some have patchy reliability but otherwise cheap & useful
I have 3 of these units and 1 stays on intermittently after the timer should have switched off. The plug is only 3m from the base station in the same room. The other 2 units switch OK, though I'm always suspicious they may stay on. This is a problem for things like electric radiators drawing 400W getting left on for days. Otherwise these units have good functionallity and offer web interface for any computer which is rare these days of Android/iOS only.I have 3 of these units and 1 stays on intermittently after the timer should have switched off. True Status reporting at reasonable price, once you've bought the hub.
One of the issues I find with many of the plug-in or semi permanent fix smart-home gadgets is the lack of true status reporting. i.e. When you tell the device to turn on, has it actually physically done so or has the software just reported it has received the "On" signal or command. As far as I can tell, Energenie make three different variants of their adaptors, a cheaper version which is coloured blue and does not do the true status reporting, a version (Pink colour) which reports energy consumption to the App only (Doesn't offer any kind of remote control which for me is just pointless) and finally this one, the Purple colour which does both consumption monitoring and remote control with the key difference from the blue ones, these actually have true status reporting. These adaptors ... These adaptors need an Energenie Hub to operate, they do not connect directly to you home Wifi. I have mixed feelings about this but it does save cluttering up you home router with dozens of IP addresses and the hub does seem to have a pretty decent range, unlike some home wifi routers. You can tie these in with Amazon Echo for certain, I assume Google assistant and the Apple equivalent are most likely supported but I can't verify. They can also be controlled via a phone App which is both easy and intuitive to use. The App also reports the energy consumption of the device, giving current status, daily, weekly and monthly energy consumption. The App also allows for timers to be set up and allow events to trigger an action such as turning on or off a device. Out of the many smart home devices I've had, these I would rate as some of the better products on the market. So far have proven reliable in well over 18 months of use.
