Synopsis
Bad Beats and Lucky Draws is your down-and-dirty guide to the world of high-stakes professional poker. Phil Hellmuth, nine-time World Series of Poker Champion and author of Play Poker Like the Pros, presents a blow-by-blow account of many of poker's "clash of the titans" hands from the World Series of Poker, the World Poker Tour, and the European Tour. Phil provides insights into what the players were thinking and includes his own take on what they (and in many cases what he) should have done differently. Highly entertaining and instructive, Bad Beats and Lucky Draws gives you a seat at the table with the best bluffs, reads, and over-the-top plays such as the hand that won Phil his record-tying ninth bracelet at the 2003 World Series to the heartbreaking play that knocked him out of the "Big One." Bad Beats and Lucky Draws also includes special contributions by Doyle Brunson Johnny Chan Annie Duke Howard Lederer Daniel Negreanu Ted Forrest Jennifer Harman Layne Flack Men Nguyen John Bonetti, Bad Beats and Lucky Draws is Phil Hellmuth's follow-up to his phenomenal seller Play Poker Like the Pros. This is an instructive and entertaining inside look at the world of high-stakes poker, and will appeal to Phil's legions of fans and the millions of poker enthusiasts who follow the World Poker Tour and watch the new Celebrity Poker TV show. This book is essentially a behind-the-scenes look at the professional poker tour from one of its leading players. In this blow-by-blow narrative of today's top poker matches, Phil provides every gory detail and tons of strategy and advice. He also includes his own take on why the professionals played the cards they did and what they should have done differently. Many of the hands are from Phil's own play, including the hand that won him his record-tying ninth bracelet at the 2003 World Series and the heart-breaking play that knocked him out of the "Big One." Sections include "Clash of the Titans" hands that pitted champion vs. champion, celebrity hands, key hands at the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour, and the best bluffs, calls, and folds that Phil has played or witnessed. This is the perfect companion to Phil's Play Poker Like the Pros, as it outlines advanced strategies and includes exciting real-life examples from players approaching celebrity status.

Super impressed with this seller! They had the best price by far for this book! Both the cost of the book and the shipping fee was far better than average! The book came exactly as described, it was well packaged and quite a bit earlier than expected! The seller was polite and replied quickly to my messages. I’ll definitely make another purchase soon! WONDERFUL book! Better than described, in just like new condition [not just good]. Packaged very carefully, shipped very securely. Great seller, would buy from again in a heartbeat! No communication occurred, but I imagine it would have been as good as the rest of their customer service. Very happy with purchase, thank you very much!

  • Great stories from one of poker's greats!

I decided to purchase this book because I am a poker amateur who is interested in learning as much about the game as possible. Phil Hellmuth is an 11-time WSOP bracelet winner and one of my personal favorites. "Bad Beats and Lucky Draws" is a compilation of some of poker's greats getting "sucked out" on for a bad beat told from Phil's point of view. Phil breaks the hand down careful not to miss any details. Then, Phil breaks down the betting and explains whether he liked or disliked someone's play and why. There are a few pictures along the way of some famous poker faces which are really neat. Also, you'll pick up some strategy tips from the text which will help any amateur poker player. Enjoy and good luck at the tables.

  • A great read for the poker lover

This book is just fun. It has so many great stories from Hellmuth, and I'm sure it's just the tip of the iceberg. It's really cool because he goes back to his days from Madison, WI (which is where I live). An excellent read that teaches as well as entertains.

  • bad beats and lucky draws

I thought that the stories were great. The hand by hand description takes you into the minds of some of the greatest players in the world. This is a great read for all poker players, beginner or professional.
