  • Simple, cheap, accurately cut, why waste your time cutting a nut yourself...?

I got a Tusq nut to replace the awful adjustable brass nut (that strings 'score' their way through...) on a Gibson LP Jr 100. It's a tricky job, since the nut needs to be cut in 3 dimensions to fit the base - I did it OK using a Dremel, but the nut was too thin over the 'lugs' at the side, it wouldn't have lasted long... Lesson learnt, I filed the lugs off the base, got another nut and cut it to fit - a tricky job that I would have been really pissed off about if I'd made one from scratch rather than paying £10 a throw for the Tusq nuts - Result - the strangely playable LP Jr 100 now uses its wider than normal neck with a Taylor-sized nut to be useful as an electric guitar that's good for acoustic players...
