Gerald F. KreycheDe Paul University"Man's Search for Meaning" is the story of a man who became a number who became a person. Today Frankl is one of the most famous and gifted of all psychiatrists. Frankl developed his ideas now generally known as the Third School of Viennese Psychiatry -- the school of logotherapy. The incredible attempts to dehumanize man at the concentration camps of Auschwitz and Dachau led Frankl to commence the humanization of psychiatry through logotherapy. Frankl is a professional who possesses the rare ability to write in a layman's language., One of the great books of our time. -Harold S. Kushner, author of When Bad Things Happen to Good People "One of the outstanding contributions to psychological thought in the last fifty years."-Carl R. Rogers (1959) "An enduring work of survival literature." - New York Times "An accessible edition of the enduring classic. The spiritual account of the Holocaust and the description of logotherapy meets generations' need for hope."-Donna O. Dziedzic (PLA) AAUP Best of the Best Program

Synopsis
Psychiatrist Viktor Frankl's memoir has riveted generations of readers with its descriptions of life in Nazi death camps and its lessons for spiritual survival. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of others he treated later in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose. Frankl's theory-known as logotherapy, from the Greek word logos ("meaning")-holds that our primary drive in life is not pleasure, as Freud maintained, but the discovery and pursuit of what we personally find meaningful. At the time of Frankl's death in 1997, Man's Search for Meaning had sold more than 10 million copies in twenty-four languages. A 1991 reader survey for the Library of Congress that asked readers to name a "book that made a difference in your life" found Man's Search for Meaning among the ten most influential books in America., THIS EDITION IS NO LONGER IN PRINT. Great transaction, exactly as described, packed well, and promptly shipped on August 6th. Unfortunately the U.S. Postal Service took 23 calendar days to deliver the book. It was shipped from Pennsylvania, to Atlanta, past Alabama to Texas, enjoyed several days in Texas, then to Minneapolis, Jacksonville, Florida, back to Atlanta, finally to Birmingham, and Huntsville. The seller was very responsive and I decided it was interesting to see if/how the book would arrive. Thanks, Joe

Excellent purchase. Was able to get all three items from the one seller. Seller was able to bundle all three items together into one package. Items as described and arrived in perfect condition. Good communication around shipping and tracking as items delayed and not able to be delivered by original estimate. Thanks to shipping updates I was able to track the items arriving before the extended delivery time. Thank you for making these items available on EBay.

I bought this book as a Christmas gift. I read it many years ago and it had a profound affect on me concerning humanity, love and crisis. It's a book everybody should read once in their life. It is truly life changing.

Humanity's cruelty leads this author to find hope in God

This dark part in our history as humans should be MANDATORY READING for high school and/or college students.

  • Healthy Living

All I needed to do what read the introduction of this book and I felt like my life could changed because of this read! Wow. I can't wait to dive into this over coffee. Frankl had it right. His view on life is quite amazing. When he came out of a concentration camp and still remained positive enough to live, is a mind blowing concept that can encourage many out there today facing trials and traumas. That's not even the half of it. How did he do it? I think this is a must read (just from the preface) so that people can have hope that what they may have suffered and gone through is able to be the very thing that they can overcome, now able to live healthier, hopeful, and meaningful lives.
