    Great, lightweight, vivid colors ...

Signature Pentax color rendering. Pretty quick focus; a little hunting in lower light on my K-5ii. It is an F4 lens after all, so it is great for outside with acceptable light, and indoors where one can control light or use flash. Lens creep; but fixable. Light, very versatile, weather sealed and SHARP! I can't believe how sharp this "kit lens (DAL)" is. It rates sharper than its DA cousin and I can really see any different. The hard plastic mount fits great and I have virtually replaced my Sigma 18-125 with this Pentax lens for all-round walkabout. Use UV and or CIR-POL and gave great results. For $95 to $120, I cannot see any reason not to own this little gem. Remember, THE DAL version! Would be 5 stars but for lens creep. Am very pleased. .

  • Most critical review

    Below average in picture quality

This is an inexpensive, not very well built lens. The automatic functions are fine. Internet reviews give this lens good marks for photo quality, sharpness, color, and so on, but my lens is below average in sharpness especially at the longer telephoto range. Compared to the inexpensive Canon lens of roughly the same focal length (55-200mm), which sells for about the same price, the photo quality is noticeably not as good. Overall, it's no better than ok. I would not buy it again.

  • It's a compromise

The lens saving grace is that is weather resistant. It's a bit soft but that can be handled by good use of aperture and avoiding the extreme ends of the of the zoom range. But the real advantage is that I can take it out on foggy, rainy and snowy days and capture pictures that I would ordinarily miss. I would recommend this lens to anyone limited by budget.

  • Good value for cost of walk around lens

Lens works well with my Pentax K100. Images crisp and no distortion noted. Camera hunts a bit for focus but may be the camera and not lens fault. Pleased with value for money.

  • A very good lens at a price that won't break the bank!

All-in-all a pretty good lens for shots that are not too demanding -- especially given the going price for this lens. It's light, compact and easy to tote around. Handy as it definitely adds reach for those shots where you need a bit more zoom. Definitely a lens that does better in relatively well lit situations and a hood is recommended. Pictures have nice contrast and the expected excellent Pentax color rendition. A little light Post-processing via Photoshop and it really does make for pictures that are rather appealing.
