A country album for people who aren't into country. Fantastic live recordi
For me, Johnny Cash was a bit of an acquired taste as I've never really been into Country music. It took a long introduction over quite a period of time and I realised that the music that he made was not really like a lot of other country music at all. This particular album is legendary. Johnny Cash was the first high-profile artist who had even considered playing to a prison audience and decided to record it too. With a number of scrapes with the law himself, he identified with the prisoners and they of course identified with him. What is particularly striking about this recording is how much he provokes the crowd with songs that are about breaking the law and anti the system, and really getting the prisoners worked up. And then as the recording continues, he brings them back down, ... For me, Johnny Cash was a bit of an acquired taste as I've never really been into Country music. At Folsom Prison is a live album by Johnny Cash, recorded on January 13, 1968 at Folsom State Prison in Folsom, California. Also on the album are June Carter, Carl Perkins, and Cash's band, the Tennessee Three. The final song, "Greystone Chapel", was written by an inmate, Glen Sherley.
