Is vanity fair ?
I first watched it on loan, looking to fill some time after biting into a few other period drama's. Straight away I found myself relating to various aspects of this rendition of Thackery's Vanity Fair. It appeals to those with a somewhat more sadistic or black humour in many ways as the comical side of things is usually at the misfortune of those suffering from a lust for Miss Sharp. For those who can speak French, will note the butler referring to the mutton meal as something else rather amusing. And the end credits had my chuckling away - the most bizzare end credit rolls I have ever seen ! Now it's pretty cheap to buy, so if you think it might appeal - get it anyway, it has to be worth a shot ! Compelling viewing, brilliantly produced and acted.
I have watched and am watching four versions of Vanity Fair at present , three TV versions and the Reese Witherspoon film. This version, starring Natasha Little is the best by some distance. Brilliantly acted and superbly produced, I watched it in very quick time as I couldn't wait for the next episode. I could not say the same for the other versions although they all had some merit.
