I bought the shooting script because I was really fascinated by the movie and the concepts behind it. After all, Mr. Nolan had been developing these ideas for the last ten years. All in all, I was not disappointed. There is an interview in the beginning between Christopher Nolan and his brother, Johnathan Nolan. In this interview, he reveals the "inception" of inception and discusses some subtle details about the story that aren't fully explained in the movie. Even if it took a lot of mental effort just to follow the general plot, I can tell you that is on the superficial level and that the movie delves into "deeper" concepts. It only reaffirms that inception is not some "matrix rip-off" like some people are accusing it to be. It is a very genuinely inspired work of are that takes influences sources such as the matrix, 2001: space odyssey, heat, james bond, and blade runner. However, nolan is not ripping them off as much as creating a movie that is much like a dream that one experiences at night after watching all of these movies. The screenplay is great because it allows you to compare the dialogue in the movie to that was originally written. If you didn't catch all the dialogue in the film (particularly from Saito's character), the screenplay will definitely help you understand the story. There are also really cool pictures in the book. It includes concept art art of the different settings that are seen in the film. What's particularly great is the plot diagram of the movie that is drawn by Christopher Nolan himself. After seeing the visual intricacies of the diagram it is hard to not see that the film is a metaphor for movie-making. Christopher Nolan subconsciously sees himself as an architect whose job it is to create a movie/dream that meant be feel plausible all while taking us(the subject) on an emotional journey. Well, that was a long rant. You can see just how thought provoking this work of art is. If you are a fan of the movie, I highly recommend this item.Read full review
