I remember watching this show on the Sci-Fi Channel in the mid '90's (I was just barely too young to stay up and watch it in '92) and loving it. This is the show that turned me on to vampire legend and lore, something that I have studied in great detail since the late '90's. Det. Nick Knight is a "reformed" vampire living and working as a homocide detective in present day (then) Toronto. The show, at times, focuses more on Nick's "transformation" than on the cases involved, but in a good way. Nick is roughly 800 years old and wants nothing more than to be mortal agian. Natalie Lambert, the Medical Examiner for Toronto PD, is helping him overcome the vampire weaknesses: crosses, sunlight, thirst for blood, etc. Nat and Nick have a complex relationship. There are times that it becomes difficult to tell if they are friends or lovers. Natalie has supressed feelings for Nick, this we know, but what about Nick...? And then there's Det. Don Schanke, Nick's partner. Schanke offers comic relief. He's interesting, to say the least. The show flashes back to Nick's past to show similarities between what's happening in Nick's life now and things that have happened to Nick in the past. Nick has a long and violent history that his conscience cannot quite cope with. Much of Nick's "youth" was spent with LaCroix, his sire, and Jeanette. LaCroix has fought Nick's efforts to become mortal over the centuries, thwarting him numerous times. Jeanette, on the other hand, is the ever-loyal friend, helping Nick whenever possible. This is an very good vampire/crime drama. It's different from the rest, not quite fitting in with the vampire shows, not quite fitting in with the crime dramas. CSI this is not. Will he become mortal again? Is it possible? Watch and find out.Read full review

Well in conjunction with Part One i also bought Two and Three. A great series. I found the stories to be both entertaining and poignant at times. They really managed to capture the angst of Nickolas Knight, a Vampire trying to regain his Humanity. I will admit that the special effects are nothing like todays, but this was an early nineties series and effects were not that great then. The lack of 'great' effects does not however, detract from the viewing pleasure. The acting was very believable and at times moving. This series, like the HIGHLANDER, uses the technique of Flashbacks to add more flavour to the story. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys a great story which is acted well and does not have special effects over bearing it.
This is the entire first season of this series with the pilot being the first two episodes. This is a great show with a entertaining cast of character. I find it interesting that the medical examiner is female and occasinal love interest for Knight. The first reluctant vampire was Barnabus Collins on Dark Shadows. This is an updated version that has been around for centuries. He has a long life to remember. Often the show will have flashback like Highlander. They will illustrated a lesson learned or missed pertaining to the current situation. Knight has an enemy the vampire than create him that is constantly interfers with his plans. He is introduced in the pilot. His partner is one of the most annoying people on the planet. He makes Knight look even more charming in comparsion. This is a great series to watch. You don't even have to stay up late like in the first run. Buy this show it is a keeper. There are some commmentaries on the DVD that will give you the inside knowledge of the seriesRead full review
