Brutish aviation (before the EU's troubled years in the sun) was remarkable in that when we needed Sopwith Pups and Hawker Hurricanes in dark times, due to the genius of people like Tommy Sopwith and Sydney Camm -- who amongst other skills, delegation to the right people was pivotal -- we had them ready. The Hunter was a rip roaring success whilst Supermarine s Swift and Attacker not up to the roles for which they were designed during the early cold war era. Developed from the beautiful Sea Hawk, the Hunter was an export success, equipped by disparate countries such as Switzerland, Chile, India and Lebanon. This book discusses events leading to the maiden test flight of 'WB188' and further developments of the airframe until its effective time was up in the mid sixties. Recommended.
