I purchased this as I am a big fan of Pauline Collins and consider her a national treasure. I had not realised before what the story was actually about and as soon as I did I couldn't wait to read it. Being a Catholic myself, I could completely empathise with Pauline and the situation she found herself in. I liked the fact that the book is not overly emotional and more factual and describing the real situation; how it was back in the 60s. Obviously, emotion was there but it wasn't overstated in order to try and sell the book thus being more accurate. The 1960's was an awful time for women as there was so much prejudice if an unmarried woman became pregnant, added to that her Catholic faith which put Pauline under more pressure. It was a difficult choice for her but she feels she made the right one; not for herself but for Louise. I was gripped by this book from start to finish although I will not go into anymore detail so as not to spoil it for other readers. If you are at all interested then go ahead and buy it as I believe you will find it a very interesting and poignant read.Read full review
