About this product

Product Information

Features none other than HM the Queen who drifts accidentally into reading when her corgis stray into a mobile library parked at Buckingham Palace. Her reading naturally changes her world view and her relationship with people like the oleaginous prime minister and his repellent advisers. The consequence is surprising, mildly shocking and funny.

Does the queen have a library ticket?

A very odd story that stretches the imagination. But humanise the Queen by engaging her in the commonest of activities: book reading. Oh how awful to be deprived of reading as and when you want to, and discuss books.

  • Really good quick read.

Bought this for a friend who was recovering from an operation. It really was easy and quick to read. Typical Alan Bennet - clever and whitty.

  • Uncommonly good

I am biased because I enjoy Alan Bennett's writing, but even if he is not your favourite author, this tiny masterpiece will make you smile. I have given it to many friends and all have enjoyed it. Such an unusual plot and written with affection, style and a twinkle in the eye.
