    Classic film in less than Stellar format

    As one of the lead researchers for the El Rey network on martial arts films, I have always been intrigued by this particular film. Bruce Li, perhaps the most well-known Bruce Lee imitator stars in this Chinese rendition of The Dirty Dozen. While the martial arts choreography and sometimes I'm even the story characterization and action sequences are above average. The other issue with this film is that it was not done in the original widescreen format that the film was shot in. So what you get is basically an old VHS transfer with pan and scan technology. As many film purists no comma pan-and-scan is not the way to prevent a white screen or large format film. This film deserves a better fate than to be duplicated from an old episode of kung fu theater. At this point, I know of no other ...
