Synopsis
Sally Flynn engaged her three duaghters in rounds of elaborate games and felt great maternal joy at their smallest accomplishments. It wasn't long, however, before her fun-loving side became slowly absorbed by madness. Whether it was accusing Laura's father of aligning with Satan, or buying only certain evil-free' products, glimmers of her mother's future paranoia gre brighter as Laura's early years passed. As her father foughts to gain custidy of the children, the three sisters united in flights of fancy to avoid the trauma. This is an intimate portrait of a turbulent childhood.', Charismatic, beautiful Sally Flynn was the center of her daughters' imaginations, particularly Laura's. Without warning, life as they knew it changed as paranoid schizophrenia overtook Sally. Whether it was accusing Laura's father of trying to win her over to the side of Satan, or buying only certain products that were evil-free, glimmers of her mother's future paranoia grew brighter as Laura's early years passed. Once her husband left the family and filed for divorce, Sally's symptoms bloomed in earnest, and the three girls united in flights of fancy of the sort their mother had taught them in order to deflect danger. Set in 1970s San Francisco, Swallow the Ocean is a searing, beautifully written memoir of a childhood under siege and three young girls determined to survive. In luminous prose, this memoir paints a most intimate portrait of what might have been a catastrophic childhood., When Laura Flynn was a little girl, her beautiful, dynamic mother, Sally, was the center of her imagination. It wasn't long, however, before Sally's fun-loving side slowly and methodically became absorbed by madness. As Laura's parents divorced and her father struggled to gain custody, Sally's symptoms bloomed in earnest while Laura and her sisters united in flights of fancy of the sort their mother taught them so that they might deflect the danger threatening their fragile family. Set in 1970s San Francisco, Swallow the Ocean is redolent with place. In luminous prose, this memoir paints a most intimate portrait of what might have been a catastrophic childhood had Laura and her sisters not been resilient and determined enough to survive their environment even as they yearned to escape it.

When I'd originally placed this order, I had accidentally put in the wrong shipping address. However, the seller was more than helpful, and the CD arrived!! The packaging was wide open when it arrived, but luckily nothing was damaged. Additionally, there was nothing protective on the CD, so that open package made me feel kind of nervous. Otherwise, absolutely great! The customer service was awesome, and the product was as described.

Item was lost in delivery- but after some communication, seller was understanding and provided a refund. I ordered another and had it sent elsewhere. My main issue was that it felt as if I was getting automated responses at first!! Please have humans review human inquiries!! It was painstaking explaining the situation to an A.I. who only repeats unhelpful replies. Thanks again!! Otherwise. Great price! Great seller!

Although I received the incorrect book with my order (that had a title close to what I had ordered), AlibrisBooks apologized, said they could not re-send the book, and refunded my money and told me to keep the book that I had received, and either donate it or give it away, so I gave it to someone. That was very kind on their part to do that, and I would highly recommend them. Mistakes happen I get that.
